The City
Norwich a fine city
The City of Norwich, possibly one of the smallest cities in Britain, offers the visitor a city bursting with life and colour. The vibrant market at its centre, is trading everyday surrounded by a huge variety of shops, many are high street favourites, but there are many hidden gems nestled in the narrow streets, all bursting with unique merchandise.
A walking city
The City is compact so all the heritage buildings, streets and museums are within easy walking distance. The City of Norwich was once a major player in the wool and weaving industries and its heritage can be seen clearly as you walk along the riverbanks.
Many of the wharfs, factories and industrial buildings have been turned into elegant residences and the merchants houses have been wonderfully restored, some are still homes and others have morphed into museums displaying their past heritage. There are some fifty two churches within the city walls, two wonderful cathedrals and a castle.
