Bircham Windmill was built in 1846 and worked up until the 1920's when it was abandoned. It was then refurbished by the current owner in 1979, looking as it did over 100 years ago. It is the only windmill in this area in working order that is open to the general public.
Visitors can climb the five floors up to the fan stage and go out onto the fan deck. From here you can see the sails and milling machinery turning.
There is a bakery that adjoins onto the side of the mill that still has its original, coal fired oven. We still use the bakery today selling a wide range of delicious cakes and bread for you to purchase on your visit.
We also have a shop in the base of the windmill, here you can buy bakeware, books, baking products, ideas and souvenirs. You can also purchase the flour we use for our baking here too.
Theres plenty to see and do for the whole family, and children can also try their hand at baking in our children's baking corner.
