Watersedge is beautiful 300 year old thatched cottage accommodating up tp 9 guests. Once said to have been used by smugglers, sits on the edge of Hickling Broad, with its own private dyke where the smugglers would have off loaded their ill-gotten gains.
Watersedge underwent extensive modernisation in 2014 including external insulation, plus an air source heat pump system to provide heating and plenty of hot water. Bathrooms and the toilets were modernised and a new bath/shower installed in the upstairs one. Wi-Fi has been installed and is free of charge for guests to use.
Watersedge still retains the charm of Norfolk past with some low doors and ceilings with a delightful mix of old and new. Both the original cottages still have their steep twisting staircases to the rooms above. It has the old bread oven still in situ and the original old fire place upstairs in the oldest cottage.
When you arrive at Watersedge you enter into the hall that has wicker chairs and a lovely old mule chest. Plenty of room to unload your luggage. This room then leads through a small passage way into the dining room which seats 9 people and has exceptional views over Hickling Broad with its own door leading to the garden. The kitchen which has a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and electric oven, plenty of pots and pans plus cutlery, plates, glasses and mugs. There is a utility room fitted with a fridge/freezer, a washing machine and sink. Through the utility room you reach the downstairs bathroom (shower, wash basin and wc).
From the entrance hall a low door way takes you through to the main modern stair case and then onto the sitting room which is a wonderful light room with a large window over looking the front garden and the broad. It has a TV - DVD, sofa, comfy chairs for you to relax and enjoy the view.
Going upstairs you will find a landing with 4 bedrooms, a bathroom with a bath/shower, and a separate toilet. Bedroom 4 is accessed through the original low and narrow passageway, bedroom 3 is accessed through bedroom 4 but also has it's own original winding stair case from the dining room.
Bedroom 1 the master bedroom has a large double bed, chest of draws, wardrobe and a large picture window gives stunning views across the broad.
Bedroom 2 has a double bed and single bed, a wardrobe, chest of draws, original features and superb views across the broad.
Bedroom 3 is accessed from the dining room via its own 300 year old stair case, this room has 2 single beds, storage and the old original fire place and superb views across the broad.
Bedroom 4 has 2 single beds accessed via a narrow low passage and has sloping ceilings.
Outside a south facing garden has amazing views over the broad, a summer house equipped with chairs and garden games, table tennis is set up in the garage. There is a rowing boat in our dyke for you to use, please make sure you wear life jackets when on or around the water. There are bicycles for you to use but if you are a keen cyclist please bring your own or hire them.
