Beccles
Beccles is a lovely market town flourishing in the rolling countryside of the Waveney Valley on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk. Today the town hosts quaint independent shops, great restaurants, antique markets a landmark Bell Tower, which stands apart from the church and from the top of it the views are spectacular,a museum and a Lido. Of course like most towns in this area, its early history is fascinating. It was a bustling Saxon sea port and it also has the distinction of one of its citizens Catherine Suckling, marrying Edward Nelson and they produced Lord Horatio Nelson. Instead of bustling with commerce, the Quayside nowadays supports the burgeoning tourism industry. Known as the gateway to the southern broads, it provides a central point ideal for families, walkers and those interested in wildlife to set off on their explorations from.
